Loans from German Collections on the 25th anniversary of the Max Liebermann Society

4 October 2020 until 21 June 2021

2020 is an important year for the Liebermann Villa. 100 years ago – on October 1, 1920 - Max Liebermann began his tenure as President of the Academy of the Arts in Berlin, one of the most important positions in the cultural life of the Weimar Republic. And 25 years ago – on March 16, 1995 – the Max Liebermann Society was founded in Berlin to safeguard Liebermann's artistic legacy in Germany.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Max Liebermann Society, the Liebermann Villa is holding a small Liebermann retrospective covering all phases of his artistic career. In the painter's private rooms, a selection of self and family portraits, pictures with motifs from Holland and Berlin as well as works from his late work that depict the Wannsee garden are shown.

Together with you we would like to celebrate this ground-breaking and influential artist whose work fundamentally changed Modern European Art. We are also celebrating the Max Liebermann Society, which is clearly demonstrating its passion, impact and perseverance in the currently difficult corona pandemic!

Please note, the exhibition is in German.
